Independence Day

IM Updates

  • IM Player of the Week: Zach Dean. Congrats!
  • Trumbull IM Secretaries are trying to take away points; Branford IM Secretaries are meeting with them tomorrow night to try to get our points back
  • Otherwise, we are sitting at THIRD place for the Tyng Cup. Way to go!
  • Today, we won Men’s Soccer, Football and Co-Ed Football
  • Freshmen have been outstanding!

STEP Announcement

  • Rachel and Alex went around all of Vanderbilt to see if freshmen knew where recycling was and if they had right recycling bins
  • Contact them if you need recycling bins
  • Check out bulletin board near the laundry room!
  • Contact Branford Step Coordinators Rachel Shaffer (Rachel.shaffer@yale.edu) and Erica Rothman (erica.rothman@yale.edu) with questions and ideas.

Spirit Committee

  • Will be taking care of apparel
  • Andy is very proud of the way things meant for iDay – shoutout to the freshman class. Seniors, you need to pick it up.
  • JE Invasions to come – look forward to those!
  • Spirit Committee meetings, 9:30pm every Monday in Branford Common Room

Community Service Committee

  • Had first meeting today
  • Need more people to join committee
  • Apple Picking, tentative date is October 17th, 2009
  • Other projects: mentoring program with middle school in the area, every few weeks having community service day (go to soup kitchen)
  • YHHAP is doing a program that every weekend there is a community service project. Branford could pick a weekend and go as a group.

Branford Life

  • Talked to manager of dining hall today, we can get anything we want, just send out a survey
  • We do have a panini machine, and the manager will try to get that out
  • If coffee and hot chocolate aren’t filled, just ask
  • Oatmeal and grits don’t happen until it gets cold enough

YCC Updates

  • Collegewide email to come out soon
  • Looking for people to apply to join the Spring Fling (biggest event that YCC organizes every spring, day-long concert) Committee, open to all Yale College students
  • Job Shadowing Day (two days over two weeks), one in New Haven and one in New York
  • Dining survey to come out soon
  • Bike Share pilot program to start; there will be about 25 bikes available. Pay $10 to use (pays for repairs), sign out keys from Master’s Office, dropbox for keys
  • Meeting with various cultural groups this weeks to discuss Brinner (breakfast at dinner) to serve different cultural foods
  • Meeting with Yale Dining for Iron Chef this Friday

Screw

  • Preliminary Ideas: Bubbles, Beach Party, I’m on a Boat, Paris, The Great Gatsby (need to integrate Courtyard and need a band), Industrial Construction, Paradise Lost, Discotheque, Oktoberfest, Rainbow, Lisa Frank, Fairytale, Quantum of Screw (James Bond), Toga Screw/Socrates/Greek, Healthcare… Swine Screw, anyone?
  • Top three:
    • Construction – Caution tape, eat pizza, construction signs, screws, take a picture of Harkness, have part of it outside under Harkness, construction food competition the night before, eat creations the night of screw
    • Welcome to the Jungle – urban jungle
    • Discotheque – a club in the dining hall could be really cool – strobe lights, black lights, and bubble
    • Party AT a Construction Site?
  • FINAL DECISION: Discotheque at a Construction site!
